BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – When starting an exercise routine, many people want to push themselves as far as possible but Cycle Station Co-Owner Jon Childers wants to emphasize that rest is just as important as the work.
Childers says he meets many people who want to work out as much as possible, but without rest it can lead to burnout, injury or quitting a routine altogether.
“If we don’t rest, we end up getting burnt out and so many times I see people that want to go twice a day,” Childers said. “But if we don’t have rest periods in there, we’re going to end up being burnt out, end up quitting and then sometimes not coming back.”
If someone is determined to do two workouts a day, Childers recommends a more strenuous workout in the morning and a lighter one in the evening.
For someone who wants to stick to a less intense schedule, he recommends working out five days a week for 30 to 45 minutes each time with breaks on the weekend.
He also highlighted the importance of stretching before and after workouts, drinking water and sleeping at least six to eight hours a night.
