PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) – The Mid-Ohio Valley Sportsmen’s Fellowship host it’s third annual Fishing Derby at the Elite Sports Center’s pond in Parkersburg.
This is a way explained by president Troy Derenberger explains to get kids out of the house and be more active around family.
“Fishing as something I grew up was the one was fishing,” Derenberger said. “We’re an outdoor group and we just want to see the kids come out and do something other than staying in the house playing video games,”
Dominic Jones, a 6th grader from Edison Middle School, said fishing is one of his favorite activities.
“I like catching fish and eating fish,” Jones said. “It feels good to fish with your family.”
Calli Derenberger, an 8th grader from Edison Middle School, added that it can be a relaxing time.
“It’s mainly just being able to sit down and think while waiting for the fish to bite,” Derenberger said.
