Fincantieri, an Italian company, signed on Tuesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was owned by the Ministry of Defense of Qatar. The MoU is for the development of a joint short-range radar.
A source familiar with the deal said that the deal was worth around 100 million euros (108.09 millions dollars) without the support, maintenance and training services related to the radars.
The shipbuilder stated that “this MoU represents another step in Fincantieri’s strategy to consolidate their presence in the Middle East and to strengthen collaboration between Qatar and open new commercial opportunities within the region”.
Qatar’s anti-drone national system will include the radar known as Omega360. The first operational units are expected to be manufactured by 2026.
