SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Wednesday was the final round of Steph Curry’s Underrated Golf Tour, where now 24 athletes have moved on to the next round.
The tournament was held at Warren Golf Course on the University of Notre Dame’s campus. It marked the first college course the tour has ever seen.
For the girls, Catherine Andino took home her first-ever win on the Underrated Tour with a total score of 141. On the boys side, Jaden Soong took home a victory with a score of 134.
After the final putt on the 18th hole, a celebration with water was held for the winners, who were then awarded a trophy for their accomplishment. The 2024 Curry Cup was on display to motivate the players towards their ultimate goal.
WNDU 16 Sports caught up with the winners to hear what this victory means to them.
“I’m really happy to be here,” Soong said. “I learned there’s still some things I need to work on, even though I was able to win. There’s just a lot of things I can learn off of. There’s still a lot of mistakes that I made, so just growing off of those. Underrated has been amazing to get us access to this amazing course and giving us the opportunity, so it’s been amazing.”
“I’ve been having a lot of second place finishes in my other tournaments recently, so I’m glad I was finally able to break through,” Andino said. “It’s definitely a lot of tight tee shots, and hitting out of the rough is not easy here, so I just stuck to my plan and stayed focused on my line and hit the shot I wanted to.”
When talking to some of the athletes on Tuesday, they took pride in being at Notre Dame’s facility and even enjoyed touring the campus as well.
For the very first time ever, the Curry Cup will take place outside of the Bay Area and will move to The Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey from Sept. 2-5.
