FHSAA football brackets, schedule for Pensacola-area first-round playoff games

The Florida High School Athletic Association football playoffs are finally here.

After being originally delayed a week by FHSAA due to hurricanes, and now that all district games were played this past week around the state, brackets were released in a livestream from the FHSAA on Friday evening. Pensacola-area football teams are in the postseason for 2024, including three district champions: Pace (District 1-6A), Escambia (District 1-4A) and Pensacola Catholic (District 1-2A).

With the region quarterfinals slated for Friday, Nov. 15, there will be four home games in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. The three district champions were guaranteed home games, as long as they weren’t seeded lower than a fellow district champ in the region.

Now begins the road to the state championship. The regional playoffs are the first step toward the FHSAA championships. For the rural class, that will take place Dec. 6 at The Range at H.G. Morse Stadium in The Villages; for all other classes (1A-7A), this year’s state finals are set for Miami’s Pitbull Stadium between Dec. 11-14.

Region 1-6A

1. Nease (3)* vs. 8. Tate (1)
2. Buchholz (3)* vs. 7. Evans
3. Pace (1)* vs. 6. Oviedo (4)
4. Mandarin (2)* vs. 5. Oakleaf (2)

Quick notes: The four district champions are Nease (3), Pace (1), Mandarin (2) and Oviedo (4). Pace is the higher-seeded district champion, which is why Oviedo has to go on the road.

Region 1-4A

1. St. Augustine* (3) vs. 8. Columbia
2. Choctaw* (2) vs. 7. Arnold
3. Escambia* (1) vs. 6. Riverside
4. Pine Forest (1) vs. 5. Ed White (4)*

Quick notes: The four district champions are St. Augustine (3), Choctaw (2), Escambia (1) and Ed White (4), which is why Pine Forest, despite being seeded higher, is headed to Ed White in Jacksonville, the District 4 champion.

Region 1-2A:

Quick notes: The four district champions are Gadsden County (3), Pensacola Catholic (4), Bolles (4) and Marianna (2). That’s why Marianna is hosting Florida High, an at-large bid team out of District 3.
