Felix Auger-Aliassime and Daniil Medvedev enter into the Paris Olympic round of 16 and they are going against each other for a spot in the quarterfinal round.
Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Maximilian Marterer in the round of 32, while Daniil Medvedev defeated Sebastian Ofner. Altogether, both players had met seven times in the past, and Daniil Medvedev won all seven meetings.
Playing against Daniil Medvedev must already feel like a lost cause for Canadian superstar Felix Auger-Aliassime because he’s lost every single game he’s played against him. Felix will have another chance to fight for his place in the Paris Olympics as he takes on Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16.
Felix’s two wins in the previous rounds of the competition had been against Marcos Giron in the round of 64 (6-1,6-4) and Maximilian Marterer in the round of 32 (6-0,6-1).
Daniil Medvedev heads back to the court to play in the round of 16 against Felix Auger-Aliassime. It’s a match he had dominated for years and he’s confident he can continue his perfect record against the Canadian once again.
Daniil Medvedev also won his previous rounds with excellent results. First he defeated Rinky Hijikata in the round of 64 (2-6,1-6), and then he progressed into the round of 32 and eliminated Sebastian Ofner, beating him in straight sets also (2-6,2-6).
Daniil Medvedev will no doubt be the favorite in this match-up, based on his consistency and court experience, and through the change of game plans against different opposition. Felix Auger-Aliassime can trouble with serving consistency and aggression—something which could really challenge this. Although the advantage here is heavy on Medvedev’s side, an upset from Auger-Aliassime cannot quite be negated, particularly if he finds a way to play his best tennis. This should be a competitive, fun match to watch.
