LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Las Vegas division gave FOX5 an insight on the physical fitness test that applicants need to pass.
FBI fitness evaluators tell FOX5 15 percent of applicants pass the fitness test.
“Having you come out and do this fit test for us is a huge demonstration of what it takes to become an agent,” Special agent Devin said.
Becoming an FBI agent takes some work, but it is not impossible.
As they actively recruit new agents, the FBI Las Vegas division put FOX5 reporter Victoria Saha through their fitness test to see what it takes.
“When applicants go to Quantico, they are going to put the work in to carry that badge,” Devin said.
First on the test: unlimited sit ups in a minute. You needed 35 sit ups in perfect form to get one point.
Saha completed 33.
After a five minute rest, it was time for a 300 meter sprint. Just a heads up, Saha made it clear she is not a runner.
Females must complete the run in 64 seconds.
“If you stop, it will be a ‘did not finish’. That definitely happens,” Devin said.
Victoria finished in one minute and 18 seconds.
After another five minute rest, it was time for pushups until failure. Then it was another five minutes of rest before you complete a mile and half run.
The fitness test is a key component in letting the bureau know what kind of an agent you will be.
“Do they have the dedication to come here and do the job, taking the trust of the American people. and actually using it the right way,” Devin said.
A low number of applicants pass the fitness test because they are not prepared ahead of time.
Even though Saha works out regularly, she had a few days to prepare and found the test to be extremely challenging.
Agents encourage applicants to start preparing as soon as you are considering a career in the FBI.
