NFL Week 12 Overreactions
Mackenzie Salmon breaks down NFL week 12 wildest games.
Sports Seriously
It’s almost Black Friday, so who isn’t in the mood to do a little shopping? Certainly, any purchases should be completed before Cyber Monday (and the trade deadline in many fantasy football league) arrives.
But this year, it may be more beneficial to be selling than buying. Due to circumstances beyond their control, several very talented NFL players could have their prospects for elite production diminished over the rest of the season. If you have any of those big-name talents on your roster, it might be a good time to cash in.
Here are some players whose values are trending upward (or downward) as a result of their performances in Week 12:
RB Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns: It’s been a slow go for Chubb since returning from a gruesome knee injury suffered in Week 2 last season. However, he is starting to warm up as the weather cools down. In the snow last Thursday, Chubb ran for 59 yards and two touchdowns vs. the Steelers.
WR Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings: Addison exploded for career highs of eight receptions and 162 yards with a touchdown against the Bears. He has scored in three of the past four games. Don’t discount the fact he and QB Sam Darnold are both USC alumni. While they didn’t play together in college, that fact does bring them together.
QB Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers: Young looked like a giant bust after being picked No. 1 overall in 2023. After getting benched earlier this season, things have shifted dramatically. He won two games in a row, and nearly took down Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in Week 12. Young’s arrow is suddenly pointing up.
TE Noah Gray, Kansas City Chiefs: Gray doesn’t have a famous pop star girlfriend, but fantasy managers are enjoying his four scores in the past two games. Now that Gray has gained Mahomes’ trust , Kansas City is a two tight end town.
TE Zach Ertz, Washington Commanders: Ertz has managed exactly six receptions with a TD in each of the past two games. It’s the first time he has scored in consecutive games in more than two calendar years, and the first time he has at least six catches and a score in two consecutive games since October 2018. This old dog can still fight.
RB Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers: McCaffrey was the No. 1 overall pick in nearly all early fantasy drafts, but we all know about his long-term injury that delayed the start of his season. He has been back for three games, but the alarm clock has yet to go off, and he is still looking for his first score.
WR Malik Nabers, New York Giants: Nabers is still a great player, but the organization elected to bench and then release Daniel Jones, its only NFL-caliber quarterback. A combination of Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock does nothing but hurt Nabers’ fantasy appeal the rest of the season.
RB Rhamondre Stevenson, New England Patriots: Stevenson had just 1.6 yards per rushing attempt in Week 12, and he has averaged 2.6 or less in four of his previous six outings. His eight total touches in Week 12 were his second-fewest of the season and a very ominous sign.
RB Javonte Williams, Denver Broncos: Williams is one of the most frustrating players in all of fantasy. He had a single carry and three total touches, in Week 10. When everyone likely benched him, he had 13 total touches, 87 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in Week 11. In Week 12, he had minus-2 yards on eight attempts.
WR Christian Watson, Green Bay Packers: Watson exploded for 150 receiving yards in Week 11, and it looked like he was back as a big-time downfield threat. On Sunday, he got past the last level of defense and appeared on his way to a long touchdown. Just one thing, though, he forgot to catch the football.
