The NBA is starting to ramp up as the standings start to take early season form. Sunday is an intriguing slate loaded with highly anticipated matchups.

PF Santi Aldama ($5,400)

Memphis has found a gem in Santi Aldama. The Spanish international has slowly expanded his role in each of his first four seasons as a pro and has now elevated into a dark horse Sixth Man of the Year contender. He already has career highs in points, rebounds, assists, and assists per game as he garners more responsibility for this Western Conference contender.

Part of Aldama’s ascension is due to his dramatic uptick in efficiency. He’s shooting nine percent better from the field and two percent better from distance. Over his last four games, he’s been a flamethrower, hitting ten of his 13 attempts from beyond the arc.

Aldama is more than a traditional stretch big who likes to launch from the perimeter; he’s an underrated defender who gobbles up boards on the glass. His dynamic game translates on the stat sheet, contributing to his over 30 fantasy points a night. He’s being grossly undervalued, and even on the second night of a back-to-back, he can outproduce his assigned salary. 

PF/C Naz Reid ($4,800)

It’s been a rough start to the campaign for Minnesota, but a shift in philosophy might quickly turn things around. Without Karl Anthony-Towns, the squad’s situational defense has regressed, but the offense has cratered. Part of that has been due to Julius Randle’s own struggles, but Naz Reid’s mismanagement hasn’t helped matters. 

Reid has been employed as a free safety defensively, roaming underneath and helping add a rebounding presence next to Rudy Gobert. The stock (steal and block) and rebound opportunities are a major boost to his DFS relevance and should dramatically improve his output. If he can find his stroke from downtown, his scoring should return to around 14 points a night. 

Squaring off against Golden State again, a team in freefall, should be a welcomed sight. Reid can fill up the box score and is a mismatch for the undersized Warriors.
