Just another calm Sunday morning around the NBA.
As heads continue to spin over the implications of Luka Doncic on the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis with the Dallas Mavericks, Sunday presents a fun five-game slate that includes the Mavericks. Let’s focus on today’s action as we adapt to another overnight blockbuster.
The Cleveland Cavaliers sit as massive home favorites against those short-handed Mavericks, while the Boston Celtics are heavy road favorites against the Philadelphia 76ers. Both games have double-digit point spreads, which can make it challenging to build DFS lineups and prop plays around these rotations given the real threat of blowout outcomes.
There are some inviting scenarios, such as a divisional matchup between the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons bolstered by a strong total and competitive spread. The ultimate setup is on ESPN later this evening, with the Milwaukee Bucks hosting the Memphis Grizzlies in a contest with the day’s highest total.
Ayo Dosunmu, SG, Chicago Bulls (Rostered in 32.9% of ESPN leagues): With Zach LaVine unlikely to play today, this combo guard gets extended run as the key creator for Chicago today. The Bulls face a Detroit team that can prove porous to guards, especially when the Pistons rely on veteran floor-spacers like Malik Beasley and Tim Hardaway Jr. for big minutes. Dosunmu can put together a busy box score in such a matchup.
Immanuel Quickley, PG/SG, Toronto Raptors (66.8%): We’ll include a player with such a high roster percentage because Quickley truly merits universal attention. Which is to say, add him in any and all formats that he’s in free agency. The minutes and touches will rise over the coming games, even if he’s still held to around 20 minutes today against the Clippers.
Guerschon Yabusele, PG, Philadelphia 76ers (17.0%): The absence of Joel Embiid continues to make Yabusele a major cog for the 76ers on both sides of the floor. Fresh from a career scoring outing and facing his former team today, “Yabu” is a strong streaming play in an otherwise difficult game to play.
Ty Jerome, PG, Cleveland Cavaliers (15.5%): If the Cavs do pull away today, Jerome could see extended run. Even in competitive games, Jerome has played meaningful minutes in recent weeks as a secondary playmaker and shooter. Jerome has been hot from deep lately and has enough assist upside to help in category leagues.
Boston Celtics at Philadelphia 76ers under 223.5 points (-115)
The 76ers are last in defensive rating over the past 10 games. That’s, well, not very good. The Boston Celtics are third in offensive rating on the season, but just 15th over the past month. Without Joel Embiid or Paul George in the lineup today for the 76ers, Boston can focus their defensive bandwidth on Tyrese Maxey, which could make the smaller guard’s day more challenging. This game simply reads like a grind.
Memphis Grizzlies at Milwaukee Bucks over 246.5 points (-110)
Pivoting to the other extreme in regards to matchup metrics, this game features two of the six NBA teams averaging at least 120 points per 100 possessions over the past 10 games. This signals two white-hot offenses meeting in a nationally-televised matchup. Sign me up.
Desmond Bane (MEM) over 28.5 combined points and assists (-120)
WIth free-flowing offense expected in this matchup in Milwaukee and with Ja Morant listed as doubtful for the Grizzlies, Bane is in a position to be a primary creator as a passer and a top scoring option for his team. Given his shot diet is rich with 3-pointers and he’ll run a ton of pick-and-roll sets with Jaren Jackson Jr. today, Bane is in a good spot to deliver.
