Sunday features just one game on the schedule. Saturday’s 14-game slate saw Victor Wembenyama play in Paris, as well as a vintage 40-point James Harden performance, and the Houston Rockets asserting their claim as a viable contender.
Strong waiver wire candidates emerged from Saturday, namely Jaden McDaniels from the Minnesota Timberwolves. The defensive ace is producing more offensively in the wake of Donte DiVincenzo‘s injury. You’ll also want to pay attention to the Miami Heat’s Kel’el Ware, as the team is leaning on size amid the Jimmy Butler saga.
We now focus the entirety of our basketball bandwidth on Sunday’s matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Portland Trail Blazers. We begin with the Thunder positioned massive favorites.
The potential for a blowout in Portland is quite real, as we are evaluating teams with a gap of 20 games in the loss column. This said, Oklahoma City hasn’t played since Thursday, suggesting playing time could remain stable even with the risk of rest later in the game. This helps me remain confident enough to discuss some props from the Thunder lineup.
The injury report for Portland affords us more actionable information, as the absence of Deandre Ayton means the Trail Blazers somehow sport two viable options at center tonight. We expand on this unique scenario below.
Toumani Camara, PF/SF, Portland Trail Blazers (Rostered in 19.6% of ESPN Fantasy leagues): A glue guy for a team badly in need of two-way play, Camara has a bankable role and projectable production in regards to rebounds and defensive production. Sticky hands on defense helps his case in category formats, while Camara can get his hands on enough boards to help in points leagues.
Cason Wallace, SG, Oklahoma City Thunder (13.7%): With a spread of nearly two touchdowns and several of the team’s core players widely rostered in fantasy leagues, we’ll want to get creative to identify value in Oklahoma City’s rotation. We know that Luguentz Dort won’t be available, which could vault Aaron Wiggins and Wallace into more meaningful roles. Wallace has the edge given a series of recent starts, especially as he has potential for fantasy value even if his shot isn’t falling.
Donovan Clingan, C, Portland Trail Blazers (16.7%): This rookie rim protector gets into foul trouble at times, but he also can produce rewarding lines in just a short stretch of play. The UConn product had 13 boards and four blocks in 18 minutes of action against the Hornets a few days ago, so just imagine if he can stick on the floor a bit longer against a quality Thunder frontcourt. The other option from this frontcourt is veteran swat specialist Robert Williams III (8.1%). The former Boston Celtics standout could see a good bit of run tonight, suggesting there is value in deeper formats and especially for those who need blocks and boards.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander over 30.5 points (-140)
The price on this might not be ideal, so folding “SGA” scoring props into say a single-game parlay might provide more value. Even as a standalone, the team hasn’t played since Thursday and are coming off a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, suggesting rest and motivation are present. The other element being Gilgeous-Alexander has hit this prop in over 50% of his games and already dropped 30 on the Trail Blazers in just 28 minutes of run in a 23-point win early in the season. Which is to say, there is precedent for him having success in a blowout outcome of this very opponent.
Isaiah Hartenstein to record a double-double (+120)
Plus odds for Hartenstein to match his season averages is a nice window to consider. Sure, he’s missed recent games, but Hartenstein isn’t listed on the injury report today and could feast on the aforementioned tandem of Blazers bigs. There is room for Hartenstein to cruise past this threshold given he’s sitting around a dozen points and boards per night on the campaign.
Donovan Clingan over 9.5 combined assists and rebounds (-120)
There is always risk in running out a foul-prone rookie rim protector, but we also need to recognize the aggressive nature of his game that leads to runs of blocks and boards. While his recent four-assist game isn’t necessarily evidence of a rise in passing prowess, the sheer exposure of more minutes and more touches around the nail could lead to multiple assists.
