FanDuel, a leading brand under Flutter Entertainment and a top player in the U.S. online sports betting market, has launched a new initiative called “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting” during Responsible Gambling Education Month. The program features a partnership with former NBA player Randy Livingston and sports agent Anita Ondine Smith, aimed at equipping trusted adults—such as parents, guardians, and coaches—with tools to guide young people in understanding the risks associated with gambling.
The “Trusted Voices: Conversations About Betting” video series highlights Randy Livingston’s personal story as a former five-star prep athlete and NBA player who struggled with problem gambling. Through the series, Livingston and his wife, Ondine Smith, share their experiences, offering insights on identifying gambling risks, recognizing warning signs, and seeking support.
The initiative focuses on educating adults on how to discuss gambling with young people, particularly emphasizing the importance of responsible betting practices. It includes topics such as preventing under-21 access to betting platforms and understanding the concept of proxy betting. Developed in collaboration with EPIC Global Solutions, a leading organization in gambling harm prevention, the program offers comprehensive resources through its dedicated website, ConversationsAboutBetting.com. The platform will continue to expand with additional content over time.
In conjunction with the launch of “Trusted Voices,” FanDuel is broadening its partnership with Kindbridge Behavioral Health to offer enhanced mental health support for individuals who self-exclude from its platform. Initially piloted in New Jersey and Ohio, this program now extends across all jurisdictions where FanDuel operates its sports betting and online casino platforms.
Kindbridge specializes in providing mental health services to individuals impacted by problem gambling, offering telehealth consultations and group support services. This nationwide expansion ensures that those who self-exclude from FanDuel have immediate access to professional mental health assessments and outpatient treatment.
FanDuel’s ongoing commitment to responsible gambling is reinforced through these initiatives, ensuring that both prevention and support are accessible to a broad audience.
“As legal sports betting continues to become more accessible, I knew I wanted to use my experience to help families engage in proactive and informed conversations about gambling,” said Livingston. “It became apparent to me and Anita that FanDuel shares our goal of helping parents navigate these tough, but important conversations.”
“It is important to normalize conversations about gambling, and this program is intended to help families get comfortable with traditionally uncomfortable conversations,” commented Ondine Smith. “Randy and I are delighted to work with FanDuel to amplify the program’s content and drive positive outcomes for young people and anyone who may be struggling with problem gambling.”
“Randy and Anita have an incredible story and a desire to help others, and we are excited to expand our advocacy program to raise awareness of the importance of having early and informed family conversations about gambling and the associated risks,” said Alison Kutler, Vice President, Sustainability and Responsible Gaming at FanDuel. “FanDuel aims to set and continuously raise the standard for what it means to be a responsible operator, and we look forward to Randy and Anita strengthening our RG ambassador team moving forward.”
Video content from the program will be supported with paid media on digital, shared across FanDuel social channels and featured on fanduel.com/playwell.
“Randy’s experience of problem gambling, coupled with Anita’s first-hand account of what it is like to live alongside someone in that situation, makes for a powerful message and ensures that people sit up and listen,” explained Teresa Fiore, VP of Partnerships at EPIC Global Solutions. “We are proud to have played our part in bringing this program to life and commend FanDuel for being proactive around encouraging families to be open in their discussions around engagement with gambling.”
