The Barn Fitness Collective will move next year from Gravenstein Highway to a larger space .
A local family-owned gym will be moving its Sebastopol location early next year after they were approved to take over their new space.
Husband-and-wife pair Urban and Zoe Anderson are the owners of The Barn Fitness Collective. The gym is currently located on Gravenstein Highway but will soon be moving to 6731 Sebastopol Avenue next to Sebastopol Bike Center.
Zoe Andreson has been a personal trainer for over 10 years and Urban is a firefighter paramedic in Oakland. Together the two wanted to build a gym that could accommodate all skill levels.
“I’ve heard so many times that this is the first gym that non-gym people keep going to, that it’s their first gym experience they actually stick to because we welcome all levels, people of all backgrounds and we give specialized work out experiences,” Zoe Anderson said.
The couple started their gym during the COVID-19 pandemic after seeing the need for people to connect with one another. Urban Anderson said their gym focuses on overall wellness and aims to build resilient and confident bodies.
“We’ll have a 27-year-old working out next to a 77-year-old and they might be doing different weights and slightly different movements but the whole point is all you have to do is show up,” Urban Anderson said.
Zoe Anderson said the two are moving into the building downtown to have more space and to be closer to the community they serve.
“It’s basically the place that we love to hang out, that we met all of our best friends that we feel like are family now. We wanted to give that back to the community,” she said.
The part-owner of building, Venetta Barzakov, said the gym will fit well next to the bike shop.
“We are very excited for The Barn Fitness Collective to be breathing new life into the property and whole area. Zoe and Urban are a true powerhouse couple and their work really inspires you to get strong and conditioned in a fun, collaborative, encouraging setting with other like minded people,” Barzakov said in an email.
The gym offers group training classes, private training sessions, as well as yoga classes. Zoe Anderson said she is particularly excited to teach the women’s fitness classes tailored to pregnant women or new moms. She is a new mom herself to the couple’s son Wylder.
Barn Fitness intends to expand its services as well, entually taking over two other spaces in the building as well.
They also hope to add to their services with more workshops, in-home bodywork sessions, child care, and full-time yoga instruction.
The gym on Gravenstein Highway remains open. Urban Anderson said they hope to open the new one by January.
“It’s not just about finding the right gym, it’s about finding a supportive community,” Urban Anderson said.
