Mitchell Wiggins, a guard who played for the Bulls, Rockets and Sixers and the father of Warriors star Andrew Wiggins, has died, according to multiple reports.
He was 64.
A native of North Carolina, Wiggins played collegiately at Clemson and Florida State. The 6-foot-4, 185 pounder was taken 23rd-overall in the first round of the 1983 draft by the Indiana Pacers. He was then traded to the Chicago Bulls for Sidney Lowe and a second-round pick.
Wiggins was with the Bulls through 1984 and was then with the Houston Rockets from 1984 through 1987.
He played for the Sixers from 1991 through the 1992 season.
Wiggins had a long career, that also took him to multiple stops overseas before he wrapped up his playing days following the 2003 season.
He twice led the Greek League in scoring and was a three-time All-Star there.
Wiggins averaged 10 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game across his six seasons in the NBA.
The Rockets posted following Wiggins death.
“Today we mourn the passing of former Houston Rockets guard, Mitchell Wiggins,” the team wrote on X. “Our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends.”
The NBA alumni account on X also posted a remembrance.
“The basketball community has lost a legend,” its post read. “Our hearts are with the family, friends and fans of Mitchell Wiggins.”
