Raza Golf Co., a golf clothing company, is hosting a “Day at the Range” event Saturday, Feb. 22, at Riverside Golf Course in Northwest Fresno to increase golf participation among underrepresented communities, particularly Latinos.
Thanks to a partnership between Montebello-based Raza Golf Co., Riverside Golf Course and Petaluma-based golf management firm CourseCo, the event is free for all attendees. It will include three hours of range play, live music, golf lessons, range balls and networking opportunities.
The event is a precursor to Raza Golf’s April 25 event at Riverside Golf Course. The April event spans 16 hours and features a golf competition, live music, vendor showcases and networking opportunities. The tournament is designed to blend sport, culture, and business, creating a space where participants can connect both on and off the course.
“We want to connect those businesses. We want to connect those people all through golf,” said Ruben Cardiel, the owner of Raza Golf Co.
Cardiel founded Raza Golf Co. in 2021 with the goal of promoting Latino representation in golf.
The event’s slogan, ‘More Brown on the Green,’ targets Latinos. Cardiel said it is for anyone who wants to participate, including beginners.
“We’re trying to get more Latinos on the golf course,” Cardie said. “There’s a lot of business networking that’s being done on these golf courses, and a lot of Latino people are being left out of it because we are intimidated. We don’t know how it works, and just our mindsets are probably in a different place.”
