EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A dad got a citation for letting his unlicensed 12-year-old daughter drive a golf cart that got involved in an accident and threw the girl and a passenger.
The accident happened just before 5:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 5000 block of Riverwood Parkway, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
The 12-year-old was driving a 2012 E-Z-Go golf cart north on Riverwood when she tried to make a right turn into a private drive, according to deputies.
That’s when she lost control of the golf cart, and its left front tire hit the north curb, according to deputies.
The driver and a 14-year-old passenger were both thrown out of the golf cart, which was redirected south, striking the curb and coming to rest on the south shoulder, according to deputies.
Both passengers were transported by an ambulance for treatment of injuries.
Although people may think of golf carts as lightweight and safe, accidents with them can be deadly.
An Evans man died in April 2021 when he was thrown from a golf cart on Bent Creek Drive, a residential street in Columbia County a few blocks west of William Few Parkway.
And just a couple of weeks ago, an Aiken 2-year-old died when she fell out of a sidCan-Am side-by-side utility vehicle and was hit by it in Horry County.
