EUGENE, Ore. — If you’re an early riser – or a mall enthusiast – maybe you’ve seen this group of Eugenians at the Valley River Center.
The mall walkers, a group of 15 to 20 people, walk around the inside of the mall starting every day at 8 a.m.
For many, it’s a simple way to beat the elements and get some exercise but that’s far from the only reason many of the walkers enjoy it.
“I come every day, for several reasons,” says mall walker Lin Bowman. “It’s not raining in the mall. There’s bathrooms, there’s water, and there’s my friends who I walk with.”
Those walks last anywhere from half an hour to an hour.
It has been a daily tradition for many since the Valley River Center opened all the way back in 1969.
