ESPN’s legacy sports debate show “Around the Horn” will air its final episode on May 23 after a 23-year run, the network announced Tuesday.
ATH has aired more than 4,900 episodes since its debut on ESPN on Nov. 4, 2002. The sports discussion show features host Tony Reali and a rotation of four national sports media panelists who attempt to “score” points with their opinions on the biggest sports topics of the day. The show has regularly aired Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.
Reali has hosted ATH since February 2004, taking over for Max Kellerman, the show’s original host. Panelists and sports media members who have appeared on ATH throughout its 23-year run include Woody Paige, Bill Plaschke, Jackie MacMullan, Tim Cowlishaw, Bob Ryan, Kevin Blackistone, Jemele Hill, Frank Isola, Mina Kimes, Ramona Shelburne, Pablo Torre, Sarah Spain, Clinton Yates, JA Adande, Bomani Jones and more.
“Around the Horn has had a remarkable run of more than two decades. That kind of longevity in media is incredibly rare, and we look forward to celebrating the show’s many accomplishments before the final sign-off in May,” David Roberts, ESPN executive vice president, executive editor, sports news and entertainment, said in a news release. “Beyond Tony and the ensemble of on-air contributors, we are particularly grateful to the production team led by Erik Rydholm and Aaron Solomon, who have been instrumental in ATH’s consistent success since the very beginning.”
Following ATH’s final episode in May, ESPN will replace the show with a 30-minute edition of “SportsCenter” during weekdays in the summer at 5 p.m. Eastern. Additional updates regarding ESPN’s weekday afternoon schedule will be announced at a later date, according to the release.
