Eric Bieniemy’s path away from the Kansas City Chiefs has taken him back into the college ranks where he started after a short stay in the nation’s capital. Now the former Chiefs offensive coordinator might be back in the NFL again in 2025.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz has word that Bieniemy is looking to resurface in at the professional level and that the New England Patriots were officially interested in him—and even interviewed him—before deciding to go with Josh McDaniels.

Schultz also reports that other teams have shown an interest as new head coaches build out their coaching staffs as well as other NFL teams that are trying to replace dismissed staff members.

Bieniemy spent 10 seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs as part of Andy Reid’s coaching staff. He spent his first five seasons with the team as running backs coach before being elevated to replace Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator following Nagy’s departure to take over the Chicago Bears.

After five seasons and countless job interviews for head coaching openings, Bieniemy decided to take a lateral move with the Washington Commanders as Ron Rivera’s OC. However, that stay was short-lived as the team would clean house and usher in all-new leadership from the top down before the 2024 campaign.

Last season, Bieniemy spent the year with the UCLA Bruins as part of Deshaun Foster’s staff, but that was also a short stint of only a single season. Now he’s ready to return to the NFL.

Schultz declined to name any other NFL teams in his report. Instead he just noted that “talks with other teams are ongoing.”
