September 29, 2024-In the first disc golf action of the year, the top ranked Emporia State women won, and the second ranked Hornet men came in second at the KSUDGC Mid-American Conference Season Opener in Manhattan, Kan.
Hornets Atlanta Krueger and newcomer Madeline Joiner combined to shoot four over and win the women’s competition by 13 strokes over teammates Maya Ringgold and Rebekah Thompson. Krueger and Joiner had only two bogeys and recorded four birdies over the 18 holes at Fairmont Park. Grace Watson was third competing by herself with a +21.
For the Emporia State Gold men’s foursome of Justin Farrell, TJ Reel, Mica Tatro and Cade Kohlmeier finished two strokes behind Kansas State’s Purple team. The Hornets birdied 15 of the last 16 holes to finish the two rounds at -19 but could not overcome a three stroke deficit after the first round. The ESU Black team of Isaiah Esquivel, Caden Stucky, Grant Yoder and Joshua Sterner shot 11 under to place fourth.
The Hornets will take part in an event in Missouri in October before playing host to the Mid-American Regional Championship presented by Dynamic Discs on November 9-10.
