Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson was injured in a race Friday at Woodbine and was recovering Monday in a Toronto hospital.
Wilson’s wife, Dr. Laura Trotter, announced the injury on X Monday, saying Wilson was in the intensive care unit at Sunnybrook Hospital.
She has neck and pelvic fractures, according to the post, and underwent surgery to stabilize areas in her sacrum and pelvis. There were no other serious injuries, Trotter said, though internal bleeding remains a concern.
Wilson, who this summer passed Julie Krone as the female jockey with the most career earnings, was injured in Friday’s second race at Woodbine.
Her mount, Ready Shakespeare, fell at the nine-sixteenths pole, according to the Equibase chart. Trotter’s post said the 4-year-old gelding appeared to have a cardiac event
Wilson is fifth in the Woodbine jockey standings, with 55 wins from 440 starts. She began her jockey career in 2004 and has earned $91.4 million.
