The birth of her daughter, Olympia, became a fight for survival for Serena Williams. Though the emergency C-section was successful, a pulmonary embolism signaled the start of a dangerous period. Subsequent complications, including a ruptured surgical wound and a hematoma, necessitated further interventions. Against the odds, she overcame these challenges, although the recovery demanded an extended period of bed rest, impacting the early days of motherhood. Despite the ordeal, Williams embraces her ‘awful scar’ as a symbol of her strength, recently showcasing it during a workout.
Williams, who had previously revealed that “As a mom, I’m actually way more active than what I was during tennis,” put up a series of videos on her Instagram on Wednesday.
In the first video clip, she cycled on a stationary bike and said, “All right, my call ended early, so I had 20 minutes. And I’m like, even if I work out for 10, it’s better than none. So, here we go. Right on this good step. Yes. Yes. Woo.” Then, in the second, she did a similar exercise, adjusting her beautiful curly blonde hair. In both these clips, one thing was common: her beautiful scars.

In a previous interview with PEOPLE, she spoke about her postpartum complications and revealed that she wasn’t too surprised when she learned that she would have a C-section. However, she mentioned that, like every woman, even she wanted to give birth naturally. The only concern she had was, “I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m going to have this scar.” Despite being a bit concerned, her focus, however, was still on the health of her daughter.
Williams welcomed her daughter, Olympia, on September 1, 201,7, and then on August 2023, she gave birth to her second child, Adira. During her playing days, tennis was her “biggest love“, but now things have changed. She often hails her two daughters as her “biggest love.” However, she’s still often seen trying out innovative treatments to smoothen and soften her postpartum scars.
Serena Williams is a big fan of home workouts. Even in the last year, there were several instances when we saw her cycling, sprinting, and maintaining an active lifestyle. In an interview with Vogue, she even said, “I don’t necessarily want a trainer in my room or in the gym with me, so just having the Tonal trainers is a relief. It’s just something different from what I’ve been doing for the past 20-plus years, and it’s refreshing. But I definitely listen to my body. My favorite type of cardio is running.”
Does her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have a similar passing for fitness routines, though?
Just a few days ago, Williams surprised everyone at the Vanity Fair Oscars Party with a stunning look: a midnight-black, off-shoulder gown along with a shimmering necklace. Her workout is really paying off, isn’t it?
Her elegant blonde hairstyle turned the head of many at that star-studded event, and after seeing this glamorous look, Alexis Ohanian dropped a “👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏,” in the comment section of Williams’ social media post. Shortly after their moment of love and affection surrounding the Oscar event, he yet again stepped up to congratulate Serena Williams for being a new member of the ownership group of the WNBA’s latest side, the Toronto Tempo. While Ohanian praising his wife is a constant, is he fond of workout like Serena?
In December last year, Ohanian shared a glimpse of his gym session on his X handle, with the caption, “Training for Uppies.” After seeing this post, a fan wrote, “Get jacked and become a gentle giant.” Interestingly, in his reply to that fan, Serena Williams’ husband spoke about the real motivation to stay fit.

He said, “For my girls!“
Then again, in that same month, he shared a mirror selfie that showcased his well-defined muscles, and he captioned it with, “Training for Uppies. Elevated Performance Coaching texts me the gym menu when I am on the road.”
Well, highlighting his dedication to his fitness, Alexis Ohanian was even spotted working out on January 1, 2025. However, at that time, he raised a bit of concern seeing the unexpectedly low turnout at the gym.
