After Amelia’s long-awaited date with the one and only Andrew Garfield, Elmo was the next guest to sit across from the Chicken Shop Date host to chat while eating nuggets (Well, vegetarian nuggets because Elmo says he is friends with a lot of chickens).
But while the episode started off sweet by discussing the secret to a perfect hug (Elmo said it has to be genuine and involve consent, of course), the conversation turned a little — dare I say — awkward with a side of sass.
Amelia starts off by telling Elmo he’s an Aquarius (because Amelia also has the same star sign as him), but he has no idea what she’s talking about.
Next, Amelia said that she felt like she wasn’t being her normal “mean” self on the playdate because Elmo brought something out of her, so she decided to be more “mean” to Elmo (after Elmo gave consent, of course).
Then Amelia brings up the fact that Elmo has met David Beckham and that he taught Elmo the word “persistent.” But then Elmo thinks it’s the perfect time to teach Amelia another word.
Oh, you thought Elmo was done? He got offended that Amelia couldn’t picture him being a swimmer.
Maybe Elmo is bringing the sass because he’s a real New Yorker (after all, he lives on Sesame Street). But right when Amelia asks about this, the conversation gets rudely interrupted by Rocco, Elmo’s archnemesis.
Amelia then takes the opportunity to give a gift to Rocco.
Of course, Elmo wasn’t all sass. He gave Amelia good relationship advice after she asked him why he believed she’d been single for so long.
That’s when Amelia opened up about what we can assume is her Chicken Shop Date with Andrew Garfield. She said that she met someone recently and that she really liked them but maybe friendzoned them.
Of course, the minute the video got posted on YouTube, fans commented on the playdate.
One fan mentioned why this was the perfect guest after the Andrew episode.
And another fan called Elmo a savage.
Someone talked about Elmo’s wisdom for a three-and-a-half-year-old.
While thankfully, someone brought up the long-held feud between Rocco and Elmo.
At the end of the day, we’re just glad to have Elmo’s positivity and joy, just like Amelia said after having a rough week.
