Elizabethtown is gearing up for an exciting new event in the disc golf community—the 1st Annual Elizabethtown Open, scheduled for November 24th, 2024. Set to take place at Greene’s Lake Park Disc Golf Course, the event aims to offer players a fun and competitive day on the green while serving as a proof-of-concept to establish a higher-level course in the area.
Although this is an unsanctioned event, players can expect a well-organized day of disc golf action. The divisions will be split into Amateur (Ams) for $35 and Men’s Professional Open (MPO) for $40, ensuring competition for all skill levels. Ams will receive a tee shirt and a trophy for the winner, while MPO participants will compete for a 75% payout.
The day’s agenda kicks off with check-in from 7:45 AM to 8:20 AM, followed by a player meeting at 8:30 AM. The first round begins promptly at 9:00 AM. The second round will be scheduled one hour after the final card from the first-round finishes, and the trophy ceremony will follow after the completion of the second round.
Organizers hope that this event will garner enough attention to help bring a more permanent and elevated disc golf experience to the region, a much-needed addition to the local sports scene.
For more information or to register, players can contact the event coordinator, Austin McGill, or visit the Bladen County Disc Golf Club’s website.
