Elena Rybakina: Coach Stefano Vukov banned for mental abuse of world No5
The coach of the 2022 Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina, has been given a one-year suspension by the WTA after investigators concluded that his behaviour towards her had breached the tour’s code of conduct.
Stefano Vukov, 37, is not permitted to attend tour events in an official capacity after allegedly subjecting Rybakina, a 25-year-old Russian-born Kazakh who is ranked No5 in the world, to mental abuse during their partnership.
The WTA did not release the details of the independent investigation in its announcement on Tuesday, but these have since come to light in a leaked letter sent to Vukov and Rybakina by Portia Archer, the tour’s chief executive, and reported by The Athletic.
Archer’s letter makes a series of allegations about Vukov’s behaviour in recent years.
