LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The Eastern Kentucky University women’s golf team opened its 2025 spring season with a strong performance, finishing tied for fifth in a 14-team field at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate at Wigwam Golf Club.
The Colonels’ finish marks their first top-five result of the season. After an opening-round team score of 324 (+40), EKU rebounded impressively, posting the lowest team scores in the second and third rounds with a 296 (+12) and a 292 (+8), respectively. Their final-round score of 292 (+8) was also the team’s lowest round of the season.
“I’m really proud of the team for bouncing back after a tough first round,” head coach Mandy Moore said. “It’s always challenging coming off the winter break, but they hung in there, kept grinding, and moved up the leaderboard. We had the low round of the field in both the second and third rounds, which was great to see. I think we can carry that momentum into the next tournament.”
Freshman Karra Tucker led the Colonels, finishing 12-over with a team-low total of 225 for the tournament. She carded a final-round 71 (E), just one shot off her career low.
Over the final 36 holes, Tucker recorded eight birdies, contributing to EKU’s 31 total birdies—the third most among all teams in the tournament. She also posted the fifth-best scoring average on par-4 holes at 4.19.
Claira Beth Ramsey and Dili Sitanonth also earned top-20 finishes, both tying for 18th place at 17-over.
Ramsey put together a strong second round, shooting an even-par 71, which included a hole-in-one on the 132-yard, par-3 15th hole. Her 71 was her second-lowest round of the 2024-25 season.
Sitanonth improved as the tournament progressed, following a 13-over first round with a second-round 74 (+3) and her best round of the season, a final-round 72 (+1).
Freshman Imogen Jessen secured the highest individual finish of her young EKU career, tying for 30th at 19-over. The Australian posted a career-best 73 (+2) in the final round, recording four birdies.
Mary Keene Marrs rounded out the Colonels’ lineup, tying for 49th at 24-over. She improved each round, finishing with a final-round 76 (+5).
The Colonels return to action on March 3 at the UNF Collegiate in Jacksonville, Fla.
