MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Middle Tennessee Athletics is excited to welcome the addition of former Blue Raider standout Chris Edge to the men’s golf coaching staff, announced by Head Coach Mark McEntire Thursday.
“We are very excited to bring Chris on staff,” said Coach McEntire. “He is one of the best tennis players in the history of our program and won the highest award a student-athlete can receive in MTSU Athlete of the Year. Chris brings an athletic mindset to the team and discipline from playing another sport at a very high level. The players love him, and I know he will help us reach our goals.”
After graduating, Edge served as a graduate assistant under Coach McEntire and currently works as a PGA Assistant Professional at The Grove. In this role, he delivers excellent customer service to members and guests in the pro shop, provides custom fittings, and offers golf instruction to groups and individuals.
Edge, the 2020 Conference USA Men’s Tennis Player of the Year and a nine-time all-conference honoree, excelled both on and off the court. He concluded his career with a 108-44 record in singles, ranking third all-time in program history, and a 108-44 record in doubles, also third in program history. His 216 combined wins also rank third in Blue Raider history.
“I am very excited to get to work with this great team and I’m grateful to Coach McEntire who has been a huge mentor for me, giving me this opportunity,” said Edge. “Being outside of the college world for a short time has made me realize that this is where I want to be, helping a team realize their potential and chase more championships. I had the best five years I could have asked for, playing and learning in one of the best team cultures in college sports under Coach (Jimmy) Borendame, Coach Cali, and Coach John Kries here at Middle. I love everything about this community and I can’t wait to bring what I have learned to this team. Go Blue!”
Originally from Carlisle, Great Britain, Edge received a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Exercise Science in 2021 and a Master of Science (M.S.) in Exercise Physiology in 2023.
