The Gloucester High School golf team finished first place in the Peninsula District Championship last Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Deer Run Golf Course in Newport News.
Senior Blake Sibley won the individual event by shooting a one-under par 71. Freshman Levi Vannoy tied for second by shooting an 80, while junior Joseph Moritz took fifth place by shooting an 82. Sophomores Mahlia Richardson and Fenton Scott tied for ninth by each shooting an 88. The Dukes won the tournament overall by 40 shots over Menchville.
Sibley was the only player in the district to finish the season under par and was the individual district champion with a stroke average of 70.67. Vannoy finished the season in second place individually, averaging a 77.88 for the season. Moritz finished the season in fifth place with a scoring average of 82.33 and Scott finished in sixth with an average of 84.44.
