The Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies played against one another on Friday night, with Golden State edging out the win by a score of 123-118. The final score made the game closer than it seemed as Golden State blew things up in the third quarter.
But in the game, Warriors star forward Draymond Green seemed up to his old tricks. On what looked like a relatively normal moment in the game, Green seemed to trip Grizzlies rookie center Zach Edey.
Edey went for the ball as Green fell to the floor and before he could get his foot away, it looked like Green clamped his foot, leading to the big man falling to the floor. You can see the play below.
The incident by Green was called a foul but after the game, Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins took exception to the moment. Jenkins cited the “NBA code” and how he couldn’t believe the foul wasn’t reviewed.
“Overall, thought he was really good,” Jenkins said of Edey, who had 14 points and nine rebounds. “And very disappointing, there was that one play, we were about to start the break and he’s been playing really hard to try to outlet, and Draymond grabs his leg and pulls him down and it doesn’t get reviewed.
“So I know there’s a code in this league, and I don’t understand how that wasn’t reviewed. Very disappointing.”
Edey also spoke about the foul after the game, saying that it wasn’t a basketball play.
“It definitely wasn’t a basketball play,” Edey said after the game.
This has become the norm for Green over his playing career. The four-time NBA champion is one of the best at his position in recent memory but his on-court issues have taken the narratives.
Green has made it a habit to be a little too physical with other players, causing technical fouls or ejections to happen.
The rivalry between the Warriors and Grizzlies seems to be going strong, stemming back to their second-round playoff series from 2022. Multiple incidents occurred during that series, including Gary Payton II suffering a broken elbow and star Ja Morant suffering a right knee injury.
Both teams spoke about the “code” during the series and it came up yet again in this matchup. The NBA will likely be on the lookout for more incidents and could even review what happened at Chase Center on Friday.
