Jack Draper defeated Karen Khachanov in the final of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna on Sunday to reach a career-high world ranking of 15.
Draper, the British No. 1, won in straight sets against his Russian-Armenian opponent. He led 4-0 in the second set but wobbled briefly before securing the title 6-4, 7-5.
It marks the second title of the 22-year-old’s career and the most important in terms of ranking points, with the event in the Austrian capital being an ATP 500 event.
Draper’s previous trophy came at an ATP 250 event in Stuttgart in June this year, where he beat former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini in the final.
Draper has progressed significantly in 2024, with the title in Stuttgart followed by an appearance in the final at Queen’s in London in the traditional warm-up event for Wimbledon.
At the US Open in August, he reached the semifinals, his best appearance in one of the sport’s four majors to date. He was defeated by eventual champion and world No. 1 Jannik Sinner in that contest.
