Nitish Kumar Reddy completed a well deserving maiden Test hundred in the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He faced 169 balls to reach the three-digit mark, laced with 10 fours and a six at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Former India player Sunil Gavaskar was mighty pleased with the 21-year-old but warned the young player.
India were in a danger of getting bowled out below 250 runs but Nitish found a good partner in the form of Washington Sundar, who amassed a fifty. Nitish had his heart in his mouth when Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed and the last batter Mohammed Siraj had three balls to survive.
The right-arm seamer managed to keep Pat Cummins at bay and Nitish Kumar Reddy hit a four on Scott Boland’s delivery in the next over to complete a ton.
“This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of the Indian cricket.
“However, he will have to remember the sacrifices made by his father and other members of the family. Nitish is here because of the Indian cricket and he will have to make sure that he doesn’t take Indian cricket for granted. If he stays true to himself, a successful career lies ahead of him,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.
