The Miami Dolphins announced on Friday that they will be traveling overseas to host an international game in 2025. In a release to season ticket members, the team updated the expected games at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens from the anticipated nine to eight. They also stated there will be one home preseason game in 2025.
The announcement, which came in the renewal notification email sent to all season ticket members, read:
The NFL has informed us that we will play an international game as the designated team during the 2025 season. The location, date and time, and opponent will be confirmed at a later date. Therefore, your 2025 membership rate reflects (1) preseason game and (8) regular season home games at Hard Rock Stadium. Information on tickets for the international game will be available after the full 2025 schedule is announced.
International games this year have included games in London, England and São Paulo, Brazil. The league will also have a game in Munich, Germany later this season. In Febraury, the league announced they will be hosting a 2025 game in Madrid, Spain. The Dolphins have marketing rights, along with the Chicago Bears, in Spain, leading to speculation that Miami will be playing their international home game in Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, the home stadium of Real Madrid F.C.
Along with Spain, Miami has marketing rights in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, and Mexico. The Dolphins’ rights in Argentina and Colombia are exclusive to them. They share rights in the UK with Chicago, the Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, and San Francisco 49ers. The team’s rights in Brazil are shared with the New England Patriots, while the Mexico rights are shared with the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and 49ers.
The Dolphins have played six times in international games, the second most in the league behind the Jaguars’ 13. Miami served as the first home team for a London game in 2007, playing against the New York Giants. They were also in London in 2014, serving as the visiting team against the (then) Oakland Raiders, and in 2015, hosting the New York Jets. The Dolphins went back to London in 2017 to host the New Orleans Saints, then again in 2021 to visit the Jaguars. In 2023, Miami visit the Kansas City Chiefsi in Frankfurt, Germany, the first time Frankfurt hosted a game and the second time the NFL had played in Germany. They are 1-5 in those games.
Miami’s home opponents in 2025 include the three AFC East division rivals, the Buffalo Bills, New England Patriots, and New York Jets, along with the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and whichever team finishes in the same respective position in the NFC West’s final standings as Miami finishes in the AFC East.
The Dolphins will be on the road against the Bills, Patriots, Jets, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and the team that finishes in the same respective position in the AFC South.
Will the Dolphins play in Spain in 2025 or will they be headed somewhere else? The league typically announces the international games before the full regular season schedule is released sometime during the spring.
