It’s been a rollercoaster ride for the Dolphins this season. After Tua Tagovailoa went down with another concussion in Week 2 and Miami lost three of four games without him, it appeared the season was over. However, the Dolphins have reignited their playoff hopes in recent weeks, winning four of their past five games.

With just a few games to play this season, the Dolphins will have to keep their hot streak going if they want to sneak into the wild-card round. Up next on the schedule is the Houston Texans, who will be looking to close up the AFC South sooner rather than later.

As the season is winding down and Miami has a string of must-win games ahead of them, let’s check in on their playoff picture ahead of Week 15.

Dolphins playoff picture

Through 14 weeks, two teams, the Bills and Chiefs, have locked up their divisions, meaning two of the top four seeds in the AFC are already accounted for. Miami is in Buffalo’s division, so the Dolphins will be competing for one of the three wild-card slots in the AFC.

As of now, all three wild-card teams have eight wins. If Miami can catch fire over the final month of the season, overtaking one of these teams is certainly possible. Three or four wins to close out the year will certainly help the Dolphins, but they’ll likely need a team or two that’s currently ahead of them to go on a slide.

The Dolphins enter Week 15 with a 6-7 record and have a two-game stretch against teams that are also jockeying for playoff spots and preferential seeding. Matchups with the Texans and 49ers are tough, but stealing a win or two would go a long way in securing a spot in the playoffs.

Thankfully, Miami has a couple of relatively easy matchups to close out the year. The Browns and Jets have already been ruled out of the playoffs, and it wouldn’t be shocking to see either of these teams shelving star players who are dinged up. There are no “gimme” wins in the NFL, but teams no longer in contention in the final weeks of the year tend to provide easier matchups.

Dolphins updated playoff chances

Heading into Week 15, ESPN’s projections put the Dolphins’ playoff chances at 13.4 percent. As of now, Miami has the second-lowest odds to make the playoffs of any AFC team that has not already been eliminated. They immediately trail the Colts (26.6 percent) while coming in ahead of the Bengals (2.8 percent).
