The head football coach of Mesa’s Dobson High School was accused of two felonies after being arrested by Surprise police on school grounds.
The Surprise Police Department took Bill Godsil into custody Thursday at Dobson High School in Mesa.
He was arrested on suspicion of aggravated luring of a minor for sexual exploitation, a Class 2 felony, and furnishing harmful items to minors, a Class 4 felony.
The charges were not related to Dobson High School students, according to Surprise Police Department spokesperson Chris Thomas. He added that the investigation was ongoing and no additional information would be immediately released.
Godsil has been Dobson High School’s head football coach since he was hired by Mesa Public Schools in 2019. He also recently joined the school’s baseball coaching staff as a junior varsity coach.
He also teaches physical education classes and in the credit recovery program, which allows students to make up failed classes required for graduation, according to the district.
After Godsil’s arrest, Dobson High School Principal Gabbi Buckley told families he was “immediately placed on administrative leave” and that the district “is, and will continue to, fully cooperate with the Surprise Police Department in their investigation.”
Buckley said that Godsil holds a fingerprint clearance card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
