The head football coach at Dobson High School in Mesa was arrested on campus Thursday by Surprise police, a school administrator confirmed.
Bill Godsil was hired by Mesa Public Schools as Dobson High School’s head football coach in 2019.
He recently joined the Dobson High School’s baseball coaching staff as a junior varsity coach, according to the district. He also teaches physical education classes and in the credit recovery program, which allows students to make up failed classes required for graduation, according to the district.
On Thursday, Dobson High School Principal Gabbi Buckley told families that Godsil had been arrested by the Surprise Police Department on campus.
“Our understanding is the case does not involve Mesa Public Schools students,” Buckley said in the message. “Mr. Godsil was immediately placed on administrative leave and the district is, and will continue to, fully cooperate with the Surprise Police Department in their investigation.”
Buckley said that Godsil holds a fingerprint clearance card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The Surprise Police Department did not immediately provide further information about the arrest.
Godsil was head football coach at Coolidge High School from 2017 until his hiring at Dobson.
