MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – The fall sports season is upon us. Girls golf is the first sport to begin competition with both Class A and B programs teeing off Friday.

Des Lacs-Burlington begins its season at home with the DLB Varsity Golf Meet at Wildwood Country Club.

Sophomore Laila Christianson, who placed fourth at the Class B state tournament last year, told Your News Leader what she’s looking forward to from a team standpoint this season.

“I think there’s going to be lots of improvement for everyone, and I’m just excited to see how much better everyone can get at the end of the year,” said Christianson.

The projected number-two golfer for the Lakers is junior Ella Pearson. She shared her thoughts on the team ahead of the first tournament.

“I think we’re all really excited. We have a pretty young team, and I think our chemistry is really good this year. We’re all similar in age, and we all have been talking and golfing over the summer together. I’m really excited for all of us and see all the younger girls play their first meet tomorrow. I’m excited,” said Pearson.

The girls golf season is the shortest season on the fall calendar as the state tournament starts in late September. However, teams play several tournaments before the postseason.

Head Coach Marie Burckhard outlined how she approaches the first tournament knowing there’s a long way to go until state.

“It’s a measuring stick at this point. It’s the first meet, we know that there are going to be some nerves going out there, but we also know it’s a good way to measure where we’re at, and have a measuring point for the end of the season and where we want to get to at that time,” said Burckhard.

The Lakers tee off at 10 a.m. Friday at Wildwood.
