Annabel Dimmock saw off Pauline Bouchard in a playoff to take the Women’s Irish Open title on a final day that saw Leona Maguire shoot her lowest round of the week.
England’s Dimmock carded a final-round 70 to finish on 19-under-par but she had to go to extra holes to finally see off the hard-charging Bouchard who had blitzed the O’Meara Course at Carton House in 65 strokes to almost nab the title.
The duo headed back down to 18 for the playoff and both made pars on the first hole, but on the second hole Roussin-Bouchard took a 3-wood off the tee, however, it went left into the deep rough and she had to scramble and ended up making a bogey.
Meanwhile, Dimmock – who has come back from eight months out of the game with a thumb injury – went down the middle of the fairway with her driver and left herself two putts to win as she duly rolled in her two-foot putt to secure her second LET title.
Maguire’s closing 68 dragged her up the leaderboard to end in a tie for 15th place on 10-under-par.
Anna Abom was the only other Irishwoman to make the cut and, although a closing 79 was her poorest round of an excellent week, she still picked up the prize for top amateur in the field.
Edmondstown’s Abom ended her tournament on eight-over-par.
For Dimmock, whose mother is Irish, it was a sweet triumph.
“This honestly feels incredible,” she told RTÉ Sport’s Greg Allen.
“I don’t think it’s quite sunk in yet, but just to do it in front of the Irish fans and to have my dad on the bag, it couldn’t be more special to be honest with you.
“I’ve been through a lot over the last couple of years. I’m very comfortable in myself now and I know nothing can happen to me that’s going to really upset me too much anymore. Golf is golf. I’m just grateful for things around me.
“The Irish people are so good to me. They know that I’m half Irish. It genuinely feels like a home win and I can’t describe how special it feels.”
Finland’s Ursula Wikstrom finished her consistent week with another round of 69 (-4) for a total of 18-under-par and to miss out on the playoff by one shot and end the week in third place.
Switzerland’s Chiara Tamburlini finished in outright fourth place on 17-under-par after firing a round of 65 (-8) on the final day.
The LET rookie was bogey-free rolling in eight birdies including two in the last two holes to seal her lowest-ever tournament round of eight-under.
Four players finished the week in a share of fifth place with Thailand’s Trichat Cheenglab, Hong Kong’s Tiffany Chan, Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley and Italy’s Alessandra Fanali all on 14-under-par.
Sweden’s Linnea Johansson was ninth on 13-under with England’s Lily May Humphreys and Slovenia’s Katja Pogacar one shot further back in T10.
In the LET Order of Merit, there is a new leader at the top of the standings with Tamburlini now in first place with 1,373.44 points to her name.
With her second-place finish, Roussin-Bouchard is now in 12th place and Dimmock has jumped up the standings from 134th to 36th place.
Next up for the LET is the Solheim Cup which takes place at Robert Trent Jones in Gainesville, Virginia from 13-15 September which is followed by the La Sella Open from 19-22 September.
