A cricket club founded 175 years ago is set to get a new pavilion after a planning application was approved.

Devizes Cricket Club, in Wiltshire, can now go ahead with its plans for the building on its grounds, located off London Road.

The plans were approved by Wiltshire Council on 16 January.

According to the planning application, the pavilion will be of a “traditional form and design” and will house home and away changing rooms, storage space, an office and a social space with room for an informal bar.

The club membership has expanded and now has 85 adults and 65 juniors on its books.

It was formed in 1850 and has been playing matches at its current site until 1945, the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said.

The plans also state: “The proposal will meet the club’s current and future needs, allowing it to function independently and economically for its junior and adult male and female members.”
