LITTLE RIVER, SC (WMBF) – Tee time at the Harbour View Par Three golf course could turn into family time as developers look to replace the popular spot with more than 100 homes.
This is the developers’ first time bringing the question to the Horry County Planning Commission.
They want the nearly 40-acre golf course rezoned for 115 single-family homes.
Par three golf courses are typically popular among beginners or older players. Par three courses only have nine holes instead of 18 and shorter hitting distances.
Little River resident Chris Schmidt plays the course often, and he said the only other par three course is around 45 minutes away.
Schmidt said the proposed homes could help many people and hurt many others.
“I’m not too happy, but I know progress has got to go forward,” Schmidt said. “I’d like to see another course like this put somewhere else because it’s a good learning course. It’s really sad. Especially the workers.”
Planning commissioners will vote at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
However, even if they approve the rezoning, it must pass Horry County Council with three votes.
