Des Moines Hoover’s Justice Parkey makes spectacular play
Des Moines Hoover’s Justice Parkey scores highlight reel touchdown in first half vs. Perry, game postponed to Friday due to lightning.
Des Moines Hoover will not field a football team for the 2025 season, athletic director Charles Zanders told the Register on Thursday.
The Huskies will not take to the gridiron next season, with low participation being the primary factor. Any Hoover student hoping to play football will still be able to, though. Students enrolled at Hoover will be allowed to play for Des Moines Roosevelt next school year.
Hoover’s football athletes will compete at Roosevelt for the “foreseeable future,” Zanders said. It is unclear if the program will return in 2026.
In 2024, Des Moines Hoover’s football team had 45 athletes listed on its roster, according to GoBound. Just 31 of them recorded stats during the 2024 season. Additionally, Hoover had not won a football game since Sept. 9, 2022, when they defeated Sioux City West, 35-33.
