Sovereignty, a Bill Mott trainee who broke his maiden in the Street Sense (G3) in October at Churchill Downs, continues working toward a comeback. On Saturday morning, in his fifth drill since that race, he worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Payson Park. According to a report from David Grening of Daily Racing Form on Wednesday, Mott is pointing Sovereignty to a 3-year-old debut in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth on March 1 at Gulfstream.
Sovereignty was 18-1 at Caesars Sportsbook in Las Vegas as of Sunday, the joint fourth-shortest price of anyone in the class. He was 20-1 on the morning line for the Kentucky Derby Future Wager pool that opened Friday and closes Sunday at 6 p.m. EST, and was 21-1 in live wagering as of 2:15 p.m. EST on Saturday, with $110,826 in the pool.
