Barnes worked Monday for the first time since winning the Grade 2 San Vicente on Jan. 4. The son of Into Mischief, trained by Bob Baffert, went four furlongs in 47.6 seconds at Santa Anita. A $3.2 million yearling purchase by owner Zedan Racing, he graduated on debut in November at Churchill Downs before winning the San Vicente second time out.
Barnes closed as the shortest-priced individual betting interest in pool 3 of the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which ended Sunday. He was 6-1, behind only a field of all other 3-year-olds not named individually in the pool, which closed at 4-1. Barnes is also 10-1 in Las Vegas, the shortest price of any horse listed at Caesars Sportsbook.
