Derby alumni: 20 include the returning T O Password

The Derby Alumni tracker checks in with the horses who raced in the Kentucky Derby, both this year and in previous years, keeping up with what they have done since they ran for the roses.
2024 Kentucky Derby
T O Password, who had surgery for knee chips and missed the second half of 2024, returned to the races Jan. 5 at Nakayama for an allowance at 1 1/8 miles on dirt. Bet down to 3-1 favoritism, he tracked outside toward the front of midfield, and even though he chased on with interest to the finish, he did not have enough kick to threaten the wire-to-wire winner. He finished fifth, beaten by 2 1/2 lengths in his return.
Four horses from the 2024 Kentucky Derby field are entered to race in the next week. Track Phantom will step back up to stakes company for the Grade 2 Louisiana on Saturday at Fair Grounds. Encino is entered in an allowance Thursday at Fair Grounds, his first start since winning the Lexington (G3) last April. Epic Ride faces allowance foes Friday at Turfway, and Society Man runs in allowance company Saturday at Gulfstream.
Leg surgery put Just Steel on the bench after the Preakness, and he is working toward a 4-year-old return. the D. Wayne Lukas charge returned to work Dec. 21 at Oaklawn and drilled again Dec. 29 and Jan. 4.

2023 Kentucky Derby
Rocket Can, who won the 2023 Holy Bull (G3) on the way to the Kentucky Derby, won his second career graded-stakes race Dec. 21. Sent off a 10-1 long shot in the Harlan’s Holiday (G3) he chased mid-pack early, closed ground before the half mile, bid in earnest into the lane and overhauled Tumbarumba in the final sixteenth of a mile to win by 1 1/4 lengths.
Four others from the field raced recently as well. Derma Sotogake contested the Tokyo Daishoten (G1) at Ohi on Dec. 29, where he finished sixth behind 2024 Kentucky Derby alumnus Forever Young. Confidence Game raced in the Tenacious Stakes at Fair Grounds on Dec. 21, where he never kicked on and finished sixth behind forwardly placed winner Saudi Crown. Raise Cain was third in an allowance optional claimer at Oaklawn on Dec. 21, and King Russell was third in allowance company at Oaklawn on Jan. 4.
Three entrants from the 2023 Kentucky Derby are entered for upcoming races. Skinner and Hit Show are entered in the Louisiana, where Skinner will try to keep flying high after his Native Diver (G3) win and Hit Show will try to rebound from a fifth in the Clark (G2) last out. Confidence Game gets a class drop Thursday at Fair Grounds, where he will race in allowance company.
Reincarnate, third behind Mixto in the Pacific Classic (G1) in his last start, was sold before the Breeders’ Cup, imported to South Korea and has been registered to stand stud there as property of the Korea Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

2022 Kentucky Derby
Two entrants from the 2022 Kentucky Derby were in action recently. Crown Pride lined up Dec. 29 for the Tokyo Daishoten, where he showed his customary early speed but was no match late, checking in seventh behind Forever Young. Ethereal Road competed in a $30,000 starter allowance at Oaklawn on Jan. 5, where he chased in range but came up flat late, finishing sixth behind winner Huge Bigly.
Rich Strike, who was retired after a attempt to return to the races in 2024, has a stud agreement pending with Mountain Springs Farm in Pennsylvania, according to owner Rick Dawson.

2021 Kentucky Derby
Three runners from the 2021 Kentucky Derby were in action during recent weeks. Hidden Stash was last early in a 1 1/4-mile allowance optional claimer at Turfway on Dec. 27, but was outfinished in the lane and settled for fifth, two lengths behind the victor, Grade 2 winner Verstappen. Brooklyn Strong lined up Dec. 20 in a $10,000 claiming race at Penn National, going 1 1/16 miles on the dirt. He rallied mildly from last over the sloppy track, finishing fourth beaten five lengths by Here’s Waldo. Helium raced Jan. 1 in a $16,000 claiming race at Aqueduct, where he was close to the pace early in the 1 1/8-mile dirt race but flattened to fifth, 7 1/4 lengths behind winner Street Swagg.
Helium is also expected to return to the track soon. He is entered in a $16,000 claiming race at Aqueduct on Saturday. He drew the outside stall of 11
