A golf course in Dennis had to shut down a hole after the green was torn up by vandals on Tuesday evening, a representative for the course said in a social media post.
The Dennis Highlands Golf Course on Old Bass River Road in Dennis “suffered some major vandalism” likely caused by ATVs, according to a Wednesday post on the course’s Facebook page.
The course shared images on Facebook that showed extensive damage, with large loops chewed into the green. In some areas, substantial pieces of turf were torn up.
The damage forced the temporary closure of Hole 5 and play was shifted to start on Hole 10, the Facebook post said.
“We are keeping the recently vandalized green closed until it has time to recover and is deemed ready for play,” the course said in another Facebook post.
Dennis Highlands is a 6,500-yard public championship golf course located on the north side of Dennis, according to its website. It opened in 1984.
Anyone who has information or knowledge of people riding dirt bikes and ATVs on or near the golf course is urged to call Dennis police.
