The creator economy is booming, with earnings from sponsored content projected to reach $8.1 billion by the end of the year. Rising revenue figures are opening up more job opportunities for creator-adjacent professionals like editors, camerapeople, and artists.
The latest edition of the Creator Economy Hiring Trends Report details the types of professionals who are being hired in the titular industry, the firms that are hiring them, and the rate at which that workforce is growing. The report is put out every three months by Creator Economy Jobs, a digital listing that shares hundreds of open positions.
To compile its report for the third quarter of 2024, Creator Economy Jobs analyzed 1,941 open positions across 600 companies. The surveyed firms include creator economy stalwarts like Lightricks and Electrify Video Partners as well as companies on the periphery of the space, such as Paramount.
The companies in the report have diverse needs, but on the whole, hiring trends in the creator economy have stayed relatively consistent over the past ten months. Engineers are still the most in-demand professionals, nearly half of all listings are for mid-level positions, and the United States is still the epicenter of the industry, with San Francisco enduring as the most common home base for creator economy companies.
But there are signs that some of those trends are starting to shift. As more creator positions open up overseas, Europe and Asia now account for more than half of all listings on the Creator Economy Jobs board. The number of remote positions has now declined for two consecutive quarters after a 21% quarter-over-quarter dip in Q3.
The most important trend in the creator biz, however, is staying consistent: The numbers are still going up. Searches for the phrase “creator economy jobs” have more than doubled year-over-year. The company with the most new hires in Q3 is the same firm that led the way in Q2: Coda Payments. The financial services provider has 158 open roles on the Creator Economy Jobs board as of October 2024.
Though the nature of creator economy employment may be shifting, the industry shows no signs of abatement. If you’d like to add yourself to the data for the Q4 Hiring Trends Report, you can peruse the open positions on the Creator Economy Jobs board.
