Charles Haley spent his Hall of Fame career tormenting quarterbacks while playing for the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys.
With close ties to two winning organizations with plenty of star power, one would believe that Haley’s favorite NFL player would reside on one of the NFC rosters on the defensive side of the ball. That, however, is not the case as Haley admitted on a recent episode of Up & Adams. When asked to name his favorite current player, Haley did not hesitate to name a quarterback in the AFC.
“Let me tell you. That white guy in Buffalo that’s a quarterback,” Haley told Adams.
Of course, Haley was referring to Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen. Initially, Haley was at a loss for words trying to explain why he selected Buffalo’s quarterback.
“He is my dawg, man,” Haley told Adams. “That white guy. Hey, bro. Jesus Christ. Oh, my God. Hey! Whoo.”
Adams told Haley that she was surprised that he picked an offensive player, but Haley gushed about the way that Allen plays the game.
“Hey, you watch that brother? Oh, I forgot he’s white,” Haley said in disbelief. “You watch that brother, though? Do you see what Josh (Allen) does to these guys? He gets up like this. Runs over them and gets up like this?” Haley stated as he flexed like Allen.
Allen is certainly one of the most exciting players to watch in the NFL. The quarterback has thrown for over 4,000 yards in four consecutive seasons while scoring 40-plus touchdowns each year. Allen has essentially become a human highlight reel which appeals to a former player like Haley.
While Haley loves the way that Allen plays, he did say that he would have taken issue with it if he were going against the quarterback.
“But I would’ve tapped him on his shoulder if I was playing and said, ‘You ain’t ever going to do that again.’”
Haley backed his talk up on the field during his playing days. He won five Super Bowls with the 49ers and Cowboys, two of which came at the expense of the Bills. Haley had plenty of accolades of his own as well. He was a two-time first-team All-Pro and was named to five Pro Bowls in his career. In addition to being named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Haley is also in the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor and the 49ers’ Hall of Fame.
