Australia – Czech Republic: 12.09.2024 16:00 CEST
H2H: 3-2
Alexei Popyrin – Tomas Machac
Alexei and Tomas are the best ranked players for Australia and the Czech Republic. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Popyrin reached the fourth round at the US Open, where he lost against Tiafoe in four sets. En route to the fourth round, Popyrin won against Djokovic. Yesterday, against France, Alexei lost against Humbert in straight sets. Machac had a solid tournament at the US Open where he reached the fourth round, losing against Draper in straight sets. So far this season, Tomas has had a solid season on every surface, which brought him closer to the top 20 in the rankings.
We believe that Popyrin is currently in a better form than Humbert. Alexei showed great tennis recently, so we think that he will be a better player on the court tonight.
That being said, we believe that Popyrin will get the first win for Australia.
Jordan Thompson – Jiri Lehecka
Jordan and Jiri are the second best ranked players for Australia and the Czech Republic. Thompson reached the second week at the US Open, where he lost against de Minaur in four sets. So far this season, Thompson has been really consistent, which brought him into the top 30 in the rankings. Lehecka reached the third round of the US Open, when he lost against Rublev in straight sets. So far this season, Jiri has struggled with the injuries, but seems to be fully fit right now. Yesterday, against Bautista-Agut, Lehecka lost in straight sets.
Jordan has been a better player than Jiri on the fast courts this season. He had a solid US Open tournament, so we believe that he will be fully confident coming into this match.
That being said, we believe that Thompson will get the second win for Australia.
Purcell/Ebden – Mensik/Pavlasek
We expect Australia and France to play their doubles matches like this. Max Purcell won the US Open doubles title with Thompson last week. He is one of the best doubles players at the moment. Matthew Ebden will play his last match/es for Australia this week. Ebden was always a great doubles player throughout his whole career. Mensik and Pavlasek played two doubles matches last year together. They won both of them in three tight sets. Other than that, Mensik did not play as many doubles matches as his partner, Pavlasek. Carreno Busta and Granollers played at the Olympic Games together this year, where they lost against Ebden and Peers in the first round in straight sets.
Purcell and Ebden have been playing great this season. We believe that they are one of the best doubles partners at the Davis Cup. Mensik and Pavlasek did not play much together, so we believe that this will be the main factor tomorrow.
That being said, we expect Purcell and Ebden to dominate and win this match easily.
The Aussies are currently a stronger team than the Czech Republic. We believe that they will dominate in this matchup, and win 3-0.
That being said, Australia winning 3-0 is a value bet.
