White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced new media members like bloggers and podcasters can apply for press credentials.
Barstool Sports has become its own media empire.
From One Bite Pizza Reviews to wildly successful podcasts like Pardon My Take, the media company has flourished under the longtime leadership of its founder.
Dave Portnoy, known as “El Presidente,” founded Barstool Sports, and is the public face of the company. The Massachusetts native has made quite a name for himself. Here’s what to know about him:
Portnoy was born on March 22, 1977, in Swampscott, Massachusetts, and played baseball as a child, cultivating a lifelong love of sports. He attended the University of Michigan, graduating in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in education, a Michigan Daily article said.
According to Barstool Sports documentary about Portnoy, he founded Barstool Sports in 2004 and has been running it ever since.
Barstool Sports grew to be a media company that garnered nationwide attention. According to the website Social Blade, the Barstool Sports Youtube channel has accumulated almost a billion views on their videos.
In a 2019 New York Times article, Portnoy disclosed that his net worth is around $100 million.
Portnoy does not own the seltzer company High Noon. However, his and Barstool’s endorsement of the product and continued partnership caused attention to the beverage to skyrocket, according to this press release.
Portnoy is known for his show One Bite Pizza Reviews where he travels the country and casually reviews pizzas outside of the establishment’s doors. He’s had Massachusetts celebrities like John Cena and Bill Burr appear on One Bite.
The highest pizza rating he’s ever given was to Monte’s Restaurant in Lynn, Massachusetts, where he gave a perfect 10 rating, which hasn’t been matched since, according to the One Bite Pizza Reviews rankings website.
