ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Davante Adams is not expected to play against the Broncos on Sunday, and that shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that’s been paying attention for the last 48 hours.
Adams is nursing a hamstring injury while he waits for the Raiders to accommodate his trade request and Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer believes the All Pro wide receiver has his sights set on the Big Apple.
There are several teams interested in Adams, but the belief is that the Raiders would like to ship him to the NFC.
The Jets are thought to be low on the list of teams the Raiders would prefer to send Adams and it’s fair to wonder if GM Tom Telesco might take a slightly lesser offer from a team like the Saints.
Schefter reported the Raiders are looking for a 2nd-round pick and something else for Adams, but it’s worth noting that teams don’t typically get their public asking price in situations like these.
The Jets, though, are in extreme win-now mode, and Aaron Rodgers still has a strong voice within the organization. That dynamic might push the Jets to meet or beat the Raiders reported asking price.
One other note on the media personality breaking most of the news on Adams… Schefter warned us last year that the events of the last few days might be right around the corner (but no mention of the ‘liked’ social media posts, unfortunately).
Schefter has long been an authority on what Adams wants communicated to the public, and last year the ESPN super insider floated the idea for the first time that Adams might request a trade to the Jets.
“If the Raiders, who visit the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, can continue to prove they are headed in the right direction, Adams might want to stay in Las Vegas, where he has enjoyed living,” Schefter said in November of 2023. “But if the Raiders struggle down the stretch and Adams thinks a Rodgers reunion in New York enhances his chances of winning, he ultimately could wind up requesting a trade.”
Safe to say, that wasn’t a lucky guess by Schefter.
