Daniil Medvedev is planning to work on something new in the offseason that he hopes will work to his advantage in 2025.
The 28-year-old somewhat slipped below his usual standards in 2024, as he failed to win a title and was surpassed by the likes of Jannik Sinner and Taylor Fritz.
After reaching the Australian Open final in January and the championship match at Indian Wells in March, Medvedev failed to make it back to another final.
He suffered some crushing defeats during the North American hard swing and struggled against the likes of Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, but Medvedev wants to turn the tables in 2025 and has a plan to make that happen.
Daniil Medvedev failed to win a title for the first time since 2017.
Furthermore, he played Sinner and Alcaraz a combined nine times in 2024 and claimed just one victory, against the Italian at the Wimbledon Championships.
During an interview with Russian media outlet Kommersant, Medvedev spoke of his desire to start beating Sinner again.
Though he defeated him in five sets at Wimbledon, Medvedev has lost eight of his nine meetings against the World number one.
This comes after the 2021 US Open winner won their six encounters, and he is desperate to return to that form against the two-time Grand Slam winner.
“I won’t go into details, but I have an idea on how to improve my game with the balls I’m using now. It’s not a fact that it will work,“ he said. “I need to try to find a way to beat Jannik Sinner again, to whom I’ve lost so many times in recent months.”
Former top 10 player Gilles Simon joined Medvedev’s coaching team in February.
Due to the time of year in which he joined, and being an Olympic year, Medvedev felt he was not able to work with Simon as closely. But now with a full offseason, Medvedev is looking forward to learning more from the World number six.
“This year has been tough,” Medvedev added. “Because of the Olympics, there was less time for deep work in training, so it was difficult for Gilles Simon to make a big contribution to my preparation right away.
“He tried to do it little by little, mainly at the Grand Slam tournaments, but you can’t change anything globally there.
“This year, Simon and I got to know each other better, we got to know each other well. Now we will try to do a thorough pre-season preparation together and see what comes of it.”
